(1997)World was the second and last studio album by British
synthpop / dance band , released in1995 , two years after their debut album, "", which was out in late1993 .Overview
Both were published by
Magnet Records label, distributed byWarner Music major, and managed by FXU Management (some songs being published by EMI Publishing and Pumphouse Songs Inc.), and both got to Number 5 in theUK Albums Chart . Unlike the somehow luckier first album, which produced no less than 7 different singles, some re-releases and tons of remixes, only three singles (and a limited number of alternative versions) were taken out of this album. The first, "Shoot Me with Your Love", was the only one which made it to the Top Ten, getting to Number 7. The second, "Party Up the World", including, within its own title, the name of the whole album - "World", was a Top 20, peaking exactly at Number 20. The third, latest and last new single released by was the song called "The Power (Of All the Love in the World)", again including the name of the whole album - "World", this time within its own sub-title, and featuringT.J. Davis on co-lead vocals , along with the band's lead singer,Peter Cunnah . This song was only a minor hit or, according to the group's previous standards, a flop, which didn't get no higher than Number 40.The very last single ever released by D:Ream, before the project was ultimately shelved by leader
Peter Cunnah , was in fact the second re-release of the band's only UK Number 1 hit, "", which was adopted by theUK Labour Party as their theme for the 1997 UK General Election, getting to Number 19 in theUK Top 75 . The re-release was followed by the group's first greatest hits album, "", that their label, in agreement with Cunnah, who decided to end his one mand band, preferred to issue, instead of the group's third studio album, which was to be entitled "Heap of Faith", and was never so far released.World was mostly written, arranged, played and produced by
Peter Cunnah himself, with the collaboration of some other musicians and vocalists on some tracks. In particular, the album featuresT.J. Davis on background vocals on all tracks (besides co-lead vocals on the second single off thelong playing ), as well asSimon Ellis fromEllis, Beggs & Howard , andNick Beggs , a former member ofKajagoogoo , also from Ellis, Beggs & Howard. Ellis plays additional keyboards on "You've Saved My World" and "Heart of Gold", while Beggs playsbass guitar and his renownedchapman stick on "Hold Me Now".Track listing
