United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 1.3square mile s (3.4km² ), all of it land.Epworth is located along
U.S. Highway 20 , and is about 12 miles west ofDubuque, Iowa .Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,428 people, 476 households, and 364 families residing in the city. Thepopulation density was 1,089.8 people per square mile (420.9/km²). There were 500 housing units at an average density of 381.6/sq mi (147.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 93.21% White, 0.49% African American, 0.07% Native American, 5.18% Asian, 0.49% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.63% of the population.There were 476 households out of which 45.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.1% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.5% were non-families. 19.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.79 and the average family size was 3.24.
In the city the population was spread out with 28.1% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 113.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 121.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $39,938, and the median income for a family was $47,321. Males had a median income of $35,144 versus $20,234 for females. The
