Power Modulator

Power Modulator

A power modulator is an electronic device that stores energy over a long period of time, but releases this energy over a short period of time. Power modulators are a special class of pulsed power devices that provide high peak power electrical pulses at repetitively. The most basic such device would be a DC power supply that charges a capacitor, which in turn is discharged into a load by closing a switch at a fixed frequency. Usually, a square pulse is desired, requiring either the capacitor to store enough energy so that the voltage will not droop significantly during the pulse, or by replacing the capacitor with a pulse forming network.
