- MBM Engineering College
Mugneeram Bangur Memorial Engineering College, is a technical college at
Jai Narain Vyas University inJodhpur ,Rajasthan ,India .History
One of the best engineering colleges in India. Engineers produced by this institute are working allover the world. Though, due to one or other reason, it has not been upgreded to IIT or NIIT, it meets with international standards for an engineering institute. The research products from this college have not only raised the name of the college, but it also raised the name of the Jodhpur city. An example of this is "soil bearing capacity testing equipment" produced by Dr Alam Singh. A number of books written by the proffesors from this college are being used as text book in many universities in the world, including IIT's and NIIT's in India. This is only the engineering institute in the world which has its mining department with its own underground mine with ventilation system. The students are taught with better appreciation of mining methods. Mining department has world class geology, fuel assaying, and other laboratories. Mining department has produced proffesos like Prof Surana, Prof Bhadada, Prof K K Gupta, Prof Palaria, Prof Sunil Parihar. The mining engineers produced from MBM Engineering College are working in coal, metal and non-metal mines all over the world. The MBM Engineering College was established on
August 15 1951 , by the Government of Rajasthan. This was made possible by a donation of 8.00lakh sRupee s by Seth Ramcooverji Bangur ofDidwana , to perpetuate the memory of his late brother Seth Mugneeramji Bangur, together with 2.00 lakhs Rupees from the Hanwant Benevolent Fund. Through the efforts of Shri Mathuradas Mathur and Professor Achal Das Bohra, the college started functioning in the Ugamji's Bungalow near the railway overbridge leading to Sojati Gate, within two months of obtaining approval from the Government. The laboratories and hostels were housed in the old Indian Guest House in Ratanada. After a couple of years, the college moved to its present location, covering an area of 92000 m², and new hostels were constructed. With the establishment of the Jodhpur University (now Jai Narain Vyas University) in July 1962, this college became its constituent Faculty of Engineering. Professor V. G. Garde took over as Principal on
December 3 ,1951 . Later professors at the college have included Hari Singh Choudhary, S.C. Goyal, R.M. Advani, M. L. Mathur, Alam Singh, S. Divakaran, V. S. Bansal, D. C. Surana.Initially a three-year degree course, leading to
Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) inCivil Engineering , and a two-year diploma course in Civil Engineering were offered, with an intake of 35 students in each course. In 1957, the degree course inMining Engineering was established, and in 1958, degree courses inElectrical Engineering andMechanical Engineering were started. In 1966, Master's courses in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Mining Engineering were started. In 1972, a degree course in Electronics and Communication Engineering was first offered, and in 1990, a Master's course in Electronics and Communication Engineering and degree course in Computer Science & Engineering and Production & Industrial Engineering were established. M.C.A. and P.G.D.C.T.A. programs were also started. In 1998, a B.E. inChemical Engineering and aBachelor of Architecture were started.
