Synopsis
Andie, a nighttime disc jockey at a radio station, apparently in a funk and after a short relationship with a fellow D.J., discovers a record in her library by a former lover, with whom she broke up five years earlier. She discovers that her fellow D.J. is the one who found it and thought she would get a kick out of it.
However, after starting "Nightsong" during her shift, this former lover, Simon Locke, shows up at the station. She confronts him angrily about the fact he walked out on her and never came back. She turns and he's gone. She leaves the station after her shift and a motorcycle almost hits her. Simon pulls her out of the way. Her car won't start so she just walks away. He follows her. They begin rehashing everything about their relationship.
Simon and Andie end up in a coffee shop and she questions why he hasn't produced anything since they broke up. They discuss the good times of their relationship. She suddenly realizes she doesn't want to get tricked again, so she walks out on him. At home, she can't seem to get away from "Nightsong", as she finds it playing on her stereo. She discovers Simon and talks to him again, this time about the fact that his songs were about their relationship. He seduces her but he stops, and says that they can't have their relationship back. She's angry but he tries to explain why they can't get back together.
Simon takes Andie out towards the ocean on a back road. He tells her that maybe he was running from her all the time or maybe from success. He careens off onto a dirt road. They stop and get out near the edge of a cliff. He drags her down the hillside. They stop and he tells her how when she played his song, he decided to come back to explain what happened. He pulls back some brush to reveal a wrecked motorcycle and a skeleton. Locke had died in a motorcycling accident. Afterwards, she goes back to work and gets a call requesting "Nightsong". She plays the tune dedicating it "from Andrea to Simon, with love"...
