footnotes =Rest Haven is a town primarily in northern Gwinnett and partly in southern Hall counties in the
U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2000 census, it had a total population of 151.History
The town was given a
municipal charter in 1938, and is located alongGeorgia State Route 13 , ahighway fromAtlanta to Gainesville. This is also immediately west ofInterstate 985 . [http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/MapServer?f_name=Rest+Haven&f_state=GA&f_latlong=340759N0835836W&f_ht=.125&server=TIGER]In 2005, it was announced on
September 19 th that the town leaders wished to be annexed into Buford, a much larger city which surrounds Rest Haven except on the north. A previous attempt to do so in 2001 ended in alawsuit and ajudge ordered Rest Haven to remain a city. Some property owners have already de-annexed from the town and re-annexed into the city. [http://www.gainesvilletimes.com/news/stories/20050919/localnews/18103.shtml] ( [http://www.accessnorthga.com/news/hall/newfullstory.asp?ID=96362] )State law prohibits annexation of one city into another, so the town would first have to vote to dissolve in a
referendum . It would then go through the annexation process, which would require approval of the Bufordcity council , and a second referendum of the former Rest Haven residents. It is unclear whether the two referendums could legally be held at once. It is also illegal for unincorporated islands to remain within an incorporated city in Georgia, and thus unclear whether the annexation into Buford would be automatic. The transition is unlikely to be completed before early 2006.Geography
Rest Haven is centered at coor dms|34|7|57|N|83|58|32|W|city (34.132396, -83.975455)GR|1.
