USS "Rampart" (AM-282) was an
Admirable-class minesweeper built for theU.S. Navy duringWorld War II . She was built to clear minefields in offshore waters, and served the Navy in theAtlantic Ocean and thePacific Ocean until she was transferred to theSoviet Union under terms of theLend Lease Act ."Rampart" was laid down on
24 November 1943 by theGulf Shipbuilding Corp.,Chickasaw, Alabama ; launched30 March 1944 ; sponsored by Mrs. Frank S. Scott,; and commissioned18 November 1944 , Lt. Stanley F. Luce in command.World War II Atlantic Ocean operations
After shakedown in the
Gulf of Mexico , "Rampart" got underway8 December and arrived at Little Creek, Virginia five days later. She operated out of Little Creek, conducting minesweeping exercises, until15 January 1945 , when she sailed forCasco Bay ,Maine , forantisubmarine warfare training.Transfer to the Pacific Fleet
"Rampart" then returned to
Hampton Roads , and got underway25 January for thePanama Canal Zone , reachingCoco Solo Naval Base1 February . She transited the canal and proceeded viaSan Diego, California , toHawaii , arriving atPearl Harbor on24 February . On7 March she headed back to theU.S. West Coast , reachingSeattle, Washington , on19 March .On
7 April "Rampart" departed Seattle forKodiak, Alaska . A week later she steamed forCold Bay, Alaska , arriving on the 15th. On the 24th she began shakedown with personnel of theSoviet Navy . The training was completed on13 May .Transfer to the Soviet Union
On
20 May 1945 "Rampart" was decommissioned and transferred to theSoviet Navy on lease. She was reclassified MSF-282 on7 February 1955 .References
