USS "Fancy" (AM-234) was an "Admirable"-class minesweeper built for the
U.S. Navy duringWorld War II . She was built to clear minefields in offshore waters, and was transferred to theSoviet Union under terms of thelend-lease program.She was launched on
4 September 1944 byPuget Sound Bridge and Dredging Company ,Seattle, Washington , sponsored by Mrs. E. L. Skeel; and commissioned13 December 1944 , Lieutenant F. D. Abbott commanding.World War II Pacific Ocean operations
Following shakedown and
antisubmarine training "Fancy" departed forPearl Harbor on15 February 1945 . In company with USS|Rampart|AM-282 andUSS YMS-38 andUSS YMS-237 she steamed toSeattle, Washington , sailing thence toKodiak andCold Bay, Alaska , where she was readied for delivery toRussia underLend-Lease as "T-271".Transfer to the Soviet Union
Transferred on
20 May , she was officially out of commission the following day. Reclassified MSF-234 on7 February 1955 , "Fancy" remained inRussia n possession, her fate unknown.References
