History
Downtown Miamisburg was once the city's commercial center, but Downtown Miamisburg was diminished greatly due to:
- I-75 replacing U.S. Route 25 and other key roads
- Bigger shops and stores opening nearby in Miamisburg
- Opening of the Dayton Mall
- Downtown's aging housing and commercial spaces.
Due to the growth of nearby suburbs, Downtown Miamisburg has seen little to no growth at all. However, the government of Miamisburg decided to restore Downtown in 2001. Currently, the plans have started, and the city is looking into building a Riverscape Park alongside the local river. Many historic buildings in Miamisburg have been restored and renovated.
Attractions
In Downtown Miamisburg, visitors may see many small stores, such as The Antiques Barn and Miamisburg Art Gallery. Small clothing shops, such as Suttman's Menswear and Great Miami Outfitters, are also popular destinations. Restaurants are the main attraction, and visitors can see such food centers as the original TJ Chumps[1], Bullwinkles, Chimney's Tavern, and Taste of Wine. On Market Square, visitors can see The Hamburger Wagon[2] and Star City Cafe. Many other historical buildings are located Downtown, such as the Baum Opera House, Robert H. Mears Center, Gebhart Tavern, Market Square, and Library Park nearby.
Events
Downtown Miamisburg is the home for numerous community events, such as live music and block parties. Every spring, Downtown hosts 'Spring Break in the Burg' and the 'Spring Fling' festival in Library Park. On Halloween, 'Boo in the Burg' offers special shopping and food specials for patrons. An annual bicycle race known as 'Tour D'Burg' is also found every summer in Downtown Miamisburg[3].
