- The Hamburger Wagon
The Hamburger Wagon, voted Dayton's best burger joint in 2008 [www.activedayton.com] , is located on the sidewalk of the Market Square in Miamisburg, Ohio. The Hamburger Wagon was opened in 1913 by Sherman “Cocky” Porter to help feed residents of Miamisburg rebuilding from the Great Flood [http://www.stomachbuddy.com/] , and continued selling burgers because of the popularity among the people. Recently featured in the book by George Motz, "Hamburger America: A State-By-State Guide to 100 Great Burger Joints," [http://hamburgeramerica.blogspot.com/2008/09/hamburger-wagon-has-new-owner.html] the Hamburger Wagon is a local favorite attracting visitors from hours away for their one of a kind burgers.
The Hamburger Wagon is a small wagon, large enough for only two people to work side by side, one cooks while the other one prepares the buns and handles the money. The Hamburger Wagon has changed ownership hands several times throughout the years, most recently bought by Jack Sperry in September 2008 from Michelle Lyons [http://www.daytondailynews.com/b/content/oh/story/business/2008/09/05/ddn090508hamburgerweb.html] , but it remains true to its old fashioned values; selling small hamburgers cooked by oil in a large skillet and served on a roll with an onion, pickle, salt and pepper. Recently added to the selection are soft drinks, stored in an ice chest, and chips. Cash is the only payment accepted at the wagon that is rolled away and stored indoors nightly.
