USS "Indicative" (AM-250) was an "Admirable"-class minesweeper built for the
U.S. Navy duringWorld War II . She was built to clear minefields in offshore waters, and served the Navy in the NorthAtlantic Ocean and then in thePacific Ocean where she was turned over to theSoviet Union under terms of thelend-lease program then in effect."Indicative", a steel-hulled minesweeper, was laid down
September 29 ,1943 bySavannah Machine & Foundry Co.,Savannah, Georgia ; launchedSeptember 12 ,1943 ; sponsored by Mrs. E. L. Smith; and commissionedJune 26 ,1944 , Lt. E. A. Comee in command.World War II North Atlantic operations
Following shakedown and a training period at
Little Creek, Virginia , "Indicative" sailedAugust 19 ,1944 forantisubmarine exercises offBermuda . She then took up regular duties as aconvoy escort vessel between U.S. ports and Bermuda, helping to counter the Germansubmarine menace in the western Atlantic.Transfer to the Pacific Fleet
The minesweeper departed
New York February 5 ,1945 and steamed by way of thePanama Canal Zone and theU.S. West Coast ports toCold Bay, Alaska , arrivingApril 4 ,1945 .Transfer to the Soviet Union
With other minecraft, she was transferred to
Russia under Lend-Lease the next day. She was not returned after the war. Serving theSoviet Navy as T-278, "Indicative" was mined and sunk offNorth Korea in May 1945.References
