WSLQ (99.1 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a AC (Adult Contemporary) format. Licensed to Roanoke, Virginia, USA. The station serves the Roanoke - Lynchburg and the New River Valley area of Virginia and West Virginia, in the United States.

WSLQ currently ranks 1st in the Arbitron ratings for the Roanoke-Lynchburg radio market (as of the SPRING '07 ARBITRON Quarterly Report). The station is owned by Mel Wheeler, Inc., along with "94.9 Star Country", K92, WVBE-FM"VIBE100"] , WVBE-AM and WFIR-AM located in the same market.

The station , which signed on in 1947 by the 1960s had originally had the call letters WSLS-FM ,was owned by Roy H Park Broadcasting along with sister stations WSLS-TV and WSLS-AM . In 1972, Park sold off the radio stations , and while WSLS- TV retained it's call letters , the radio stations became WSLC-AM and WSLQ-FM .

In the 1970s, Q99 played rock. During the 1980s the station played hot adult contemporary, later moving in a more mainstream direction when there was no other competition in the format.

Power Distinction

WSLQ has the distinction of being one of the most powerful FM Radio station licensed in the United States. The station broadcasts 150 kw (150,000 watts) of power, which is 50 kw over the legal limit. The station is allowed to do this by the FCC through a grandfathered license that dates from before the legal limit of 100 kw was implemented. The station is not the only station, however, that broadcasts above 100 kw, but does have the highest power limits of any of these stations. From the station's transmitter on Poor Mountain near Roanoke, the station is able to reach much of central and southwest Virginia, in addition to much of southern West Virginia, and the Piedmont Triad and northwestern North Carolina.
