Major Drilling Group International Inc. (MDGI) is one of the largest drilling service companies in the world in the mining industry. The company is headquartered in Moncton, New Brunswick and has offices in Canada, the United States, South America, Central America, Asia, Africa and Australia. MDGI is a public company traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange as MDI. The company was founded in 1980 as a small drilling operation and now does drilling all over the world for mining companies. They are capable of drilling using various methods including:

  • Underground core drilling
  • Reverse circulation drilling
  • Geotechnical drilling
  • Environmental drilling

During the past few years MDGI revenue has grown exponentially, in 2007 revenue was $415.4 million, up 31 percent from 2006. Also in 2007 MDGI purchased Ecuador Drilling Operation, the largest drilling operation in Ecuador. In September, 2011, MDGI announced it would purchase the Bradley Group, a Quebec mining company, in a deal that is worth $95 million in cash and debt transfers. "The acquisition of Bradley Group is a unique opportunity to further Major Drilling's corporate strategy of focusing on specialized drilling, expanding our geographic footprint in areas of high growth and of maintaining a balance in our mix of drilling services,” said Francis McGuire, the president and chief executive officer of Major Drilling in a statement. “The operations of both companies are very complementary in terms of geography, personnel and strategies.” The acquisition adds 124 drilling rigs and 841 employees to MDGI's current roster of 4,362 employees and 571 rigs.
