Holborn and St. Pancras is a parliamentary constituency in the United Kingdom covering the southern half of the London Borough of Camden which includes districts of Camden Town, Gospel Oak, Kentish Town and Bloomsbury.

Boundaries

The seat was created in 1983 as a successor to the Holborn and St. Pancras South which had been in existence since 1950.

Boundary review

Following their review of parliamentary representation in North London the Boundary Commission for England has recommended the creation of a modified Holborn constituency, made from the following electoral wards in the London Borough of Camden:

*Bloomsbury, Camden Town with Primrose Hill, Cantelowes, Gospel Oak, Haverstock, Highgate, Holborn and Covent Garden, Kentish Town, King's Cross, Regent's Park, St Pancras and Somers Town.

Compared to the previous boundaries, this sees the addition of Gospel Oak and Highgate from the Hampstead and Highgate constituency. This was expected to make the deprivation levels soar with the addition of Gospel Oak but they stayed similar as Highgate, a very fashionable area was also added. (Gospel Oak had previously been part of the constituency, but had been moved to Hampstead and Highgate at the last review.) The electorate of the new seat would've been 85,188 if had existed at the 2005 General Election the figure has since risen further and at the next election it is likely to have one of the highest electorates in London.

Members of Parliament

The seat has been held since 1983 by Frank Dobson for Labour, who had been elected in 1979 to the predecessor seat of Holborn & St. Pancras South. Frank Dobson is now the longest serving Labour MP in London. The Liberal Democrats have selected Joanna Shaw [http://www.shaw2win.org.uk/] to fight the next general election. The Conservatives have not selected a candidate yet.
