Following their review of parliamentary representation in
North London , theBoundary Commission for England has created a new constituency of Hampstead and Kilburn by excluding Highgate ward (now to be part ofHolborn & St Pancras ) and including three wards from the neighbouring borough of Brent. Some areas here are amongst the wealthiest in the UK, but the seat has always had a somewhat intellectual, artistic middle-class vote associated with the intelligentsia (see main page on
Hampstead ), which the Tories cannot always take as voting for them; it also has Kilburn, with its large Irish community.Glenda Jackson has yet to announce whether she intends to seek re-election in the new seat. She was never one of former Prime MinisterTony Blair 's greatest supporters either, with an often critical and independent attitude toNew Labour .Members of Parliament
