Merriam, 1892The Magdalena Rat (Xenomys nelsoni) is a species of rodent in the family Cricetidae.[2] It is the only species in the genus Xenomys. It is endemic to Colima and southwest Jalisco, Mexico, where it is found in coastal lowland forests at elevations up to 450 m.[1] The species is arboreal and nocturnal.[1] It is threatened by habitat destruction and fragmentation due to deforestation and development.[1]
