Overview

Rock City, based in Nottingham City Centre, has a capacity of 2451, and is known for its intimate atmosphere. It has been described by NME as "sweaty, but truly indie". Rock City is divided into two rooms: the main hall and the Basement, with four bars and seating available. It is an all-standing venue during gigs, which take place in both rooms.

The club has a wealth of history, due in part to its lifespan, and is a major club on the Toilet circuit. Typically, Rock City plays host to medium sized gigs, from smaller upcoming bands of the underground scene, to bands that are getting limited chart success but are still too small to play larger venues.

However, on some occasions bigger-name bands still choose to play at Rock City. In the past, performances have been given by: Slayer, Trivium, Deftones, Megadeth, Slipknot, Tool, Nirvana, Fear Factory, Soulfly, Skindred and The Killers (less than a year before headlining Glastonbury Festival).

Rock City's smallest room holds 350 and its largest room holds 1,900.

Club Nights

The venue currently hosts four club nights:

  • Wednesday: CRISIS - Exclusive club night for Nottingham's university students.
  • Thursday: 2UNED - 2 for 1 student night
  • Friday: Love Shack presents...[1] - Variety of music genres from the 1990s, 2000s and current hits in the main room; older music in the basement.
  • Saturday: Hey Hey Hey[1] - Alternative anthems throughout the night.
