Bedales School . From there he won a scholarship to theRoyal College of Music where he studied clarinet withFrederick Thurston and piano with Arthur Alexander. Towards the end ofWorld War II , when he was aged 18, he joined theRoyal Marines Band Service . De Peyer returned to the Royal College of Music after the war and 2½ years later went to Paris to study withLouis Cahuzac .
