Parkdale is a city in Ashley County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 377 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Parkdale is located at coor dms|33|7|18|N|91|32|51|W|city (33.121794, -91.547596)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0 square miles (2.6 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 377 people, 141 households, and 100 families residing in the city. The population density was 374.0 people per square mile (144.1/km²). There were 158 housing units at an average density of 156.7/sq mi (60.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 29.44% White, 66.84% Black or African American, 0.27% Native American, 1.33% from other races, and 2.12% from two or more races. 2.65% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 141 households out of which 30.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.3% were married couples living together, 28.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.4% were non-families. 25.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.17.

In the city the population was spread out with 29.4% under the age of 18, 10.3% from 18 to 24, 20.7% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 18.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 88.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 78.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $16,188, and the median income for a family was $16,875. Males had a median income of $24,375 versus $14,659 for females. The per capita income for the city was $9,050. About 43.5% of families and 49.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 74.6% of those under age 18 and 24.7% of those age 65 or over.

Other Features

Parkdale is the home of the 1979 Overall Basketball State Champs and many State basketball championships including the 1987 Team who beat the undefeated number one ranked team in the state (CV White) not once but twice on their why to the championship. Led by their All Regional and All State players Sr. forward/center David Smith and Jr. guard Ken Jolly.
