United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 7.9square mile s (20.4km² ), all of it land.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,578 people, 568 households, and 448 families residing in the CDP. Thepopulation density was 200.2 people per square mile (77.3/km²). There were 813 housing units at an average density of 103.1/sq mi (39.8/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 92.33% White, 1.01% Black or African American, 1.08% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.13% Pacific Islander, 3.23% from other races, and 1.84% from two or more races. 18.69% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.There were 568 households out of which 42.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.5% were married couples living together, 7.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.0% were non-families. 18.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 1.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.15.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 31.8% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 30.6% from 25 to 44, 24.8% from 45 to 64, and 3.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 106.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 110.6 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $42,096, and the median income for a family was $43,203. Males had a median income of $39,347 versus $21,908 for females. The
per capita income for the CDP was $15,901. About 3.0% of families and 2.9% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 1.6% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.Bagdad copper mine
Freeport-McMoRan (which acquiredPhelps Dodge in 2007) operates the copper mine.Cyprus Mines Corporation formerly operated the copper mine until Cyprus merged with Phelps Dodge. This copper mine doesopen pit mining and currently runs on an around-the-clock schedule. The copper concentrate is either trucked to southern Arizona, or taken by semi to 20 miles outside of town to a small railroad community named Hillside.ervices

shopping center named Copper Plaza, with a smallBashas' grocery store and other businesses. Copper Plaza used to have a bank, butStockmen's Bank pulled out due to lack of profits. However, theArizona State Credit Union and theBashas' Associates Federal Credit Union (BAFCU) both installed ATMs insideBashas' .The Bagdad Community Health Center operates a clinic and provides Bagdad with medical care. The clinic is operated by registered nurses and one doctor. The one doctor is out of the Prescott area is in charge of the facility.
Fry's Food and Drug operates a pharmacy in this clinic as well.Education
The Bagdad Unified School District #20 consists of a high school, elementary school, and a junior high school. The Hillside Community School is not a member of this district. All schools of this district are now on one campus.
Bagdad High School consists of 7th through 12th grades. Bagdad Elementary School consists of preschool through 6th grades.
