Santo DiMera is a fictional character on the soap opera "Days of our Lives". He is being portrayed by James Scott in flashbacks starting July 9 2007 ending September 28 2007. Scott reprised the role on August 20th, 2008 as a figment of John's imagination.

Santo DiMera was a traveling salesman and the father of crime lord Stefano DiMera. While doing business in Galway, Ireland, he became involved with a novice nun, Colleen Brady. Even though he was married and had a son at the time of their first meeting, he was drawn to Colleen and chose to pursue her. Santo and Colleen shared letters and began a relationship after Santo's wife allegedly died. Their relationship is the reason the DiMeras started the Brady/DiMera feud.

According to Stefano, Colleen died a horrible death and Santo blamed the Bradys, but it was a simple truth that drove Colleen to her death. The truth being that Santo's wife never died and she had been intimate with Santo and was about to marry him when she learned the truth. He vowed revenge against the Bradys and a vendetta began. In a letter written to Stefano from his deathbed, Santo told him the Bradys were living in the American city of Salem and ordered his son to go to America and undertake the family vendetta. The key to ending the vendetta is contained in a portfolio that was left in Colleen's church in Galway, St. Malachy's. The key being that EJ and Sami Brady be married because EJ and Sami are identical look alikes to Colleen and Santo.

It's unclear how Colleen died, suicide or falling off a cliff, no one knows the true story just that her nun's habit was found at the top of a cliff. Before he died, he gave Stefano a "black diamond", which is said to be in his Stefano's Phoenix ring. Stefano believes the ring is why he can never be killed. Available information on Santo's death is conflicting.

In August 2008, Santo appeared as a vision to John, telling him not to let what Stefano did to him alienate him from the people he loves.

Retcon

The original story of Santo came from Stefano. Stefano told of having six brothers and claimed that he is the Phoenix because he was the "seventh son of the seventh son." There was also a mention of having a sister in a past storyline. This has been retconned in the current storyline centering around the Brady/DiMera feud. This change and historical rewrite of the DiMera history as previously known, has made Stefano the only child of Santo at this point in the story. It further brings into question how André is related to Stefano. The current story has definitively indicated, in Santo's letter to Colleen read September 5, 2007, that Santo had no children other than Stefano with his unnamed wife.

In February 2008, Colleen was found alive and revealed she had left Santo and gone into hiding where she had his son, John Black and given him up for adoption.
