Since May 30 2006, the role is being portrayed by British actor, James Scott. Baby/young Elvis was formerly portrayed by triplets Avalon, Dillon, and Vincent Ragone (February 21, 1997 to April 1998).

The character Elvis was born on the show February 21 1997. He returned at approximately age 30. This makes him one of the most dramatically SORASed characters in the history of "Days". Prior to EJ, Philip Kiriakis was SORASed from 4 to 16.

Character's background

Childhood

Elvis Aron Banks is born to Susan Banks and Stefano DiMera on February 21, 1997. At the time, Susan, a Kristen Blake look alike, is paid to give birth to a baby that would later be adopted by Kristen Blake, who had miscarried John Black's baby. Susan finds that Kristen was a cruel person and then tries to take her place. She almost marries John, but when the wedding does not go through, she falls for Edmund Crumb. Susan marries Edmund and moves to England. It is believed that EJ is brought up by Susan, but it is later known that Stefano raised EJ and he grew up at Maison Blanche, with his father, and at English boarding schools. Stefano is somewhat of an idol to him. EJ is waited on hand and foot and gets whatever he wants, if only for the asking. He seems to enjoy his childhood immensely, saying he and his father have a very good relationship and did every day father-son things to strengthen their bond.

2006

Known to all as EJ Wells, international race car driver, EJ comes to Salem after years of being away, supposedly in order to do his father's bidding. He moves in to the apartment across from Sami Brady and Austin Reed and soon becomes friends with Sami, Austin, Lucas Roberts, and Carrie Brady. Austin and Sami are engaged and planning to wed before the end of the summer. EJ and Sami become close friends when he helps her when she is being blackmailed. EJ tries to convince her to tell Austin the truth and is there for her when several blackmail notes arrive.

After Austin left town, EJ moves in on Sami and starts his scheme of getting her to trust and fall in love with him. It appears as though he really cares for her, but when Lucas starts realizing that he is still in love with Sami, he and Will succeed in breaking up EJ and Sami before they get too close. During the time that they dated, EJ started "Mythic Communications" with Kate Roberts and the two had a short-lived affair.

While Marlena Evans and John are in Italy, they find out that EJ is Stefano DiMera's son from a family photo of EJ, his father, and his mother found on Stefano's bed table. After the revelation of who EJ is, John instructs the Salem PD to try and connect EJ to the death of Officer Eve Michaels. There has yet to be any connection established.

EJ is lured by Sami to a warehouse one night where he meets up with John. It appears as though he shot John Black, and the crime is witnessed by Tek Kramer, an ex-cop from the Salem PD. EJ doesn't notice Tek and tries to leave Salem through the road block. He eventually finds Sami on the road. She is on the road seeking help for Lucas, who has his leg pinned by a beam from the collapse of the roof of the cabin in which they are taking refuge.

EJ holds a gun to Sami and demands she take him through police barricades. She agrees but wants something in return. After they get through police barricades, Sami demands that he help her with Lucas saying she will do anything for his help. EJ wants her to have sex with him in exchange for helping Lucas. Reluctantly, she agrees to it, knowing that Lucas might die.

2007

After the ordeal with EJ, Sami keeps the deal she made with EJ a secret from everyone even after she finds out that she is pregnant. Since she made love with Lucas earlier that same evening, the father of the child is unclear. Sami goes through lengths to conceal her pregnancy from EJ, but when EJ finds out, he demands that she have an amniocentesis so he can find out if he is the father or not. Sami refuses.

EJ "bumps into" Sami and Lucas on their honeymoon in New Orleans where they end up at Maison Blanche, a DiMera family home. EJ and Sami talk while Lucas is off helping a neighbor, and EJ admits that he raped Sami. He apologizes and asks her to let him earn back her trust. Later at Maison Blanche, Celeste Perrault performs a voodoo ritual to find out the paternity of the child. Celeste's ritual determined that EJ was the father of Sami's baby.

Since returning from New Orleans, EJ saves Sami's life three times and goes against his family to protect her, much to the dismay of her husband, as well as his cousin André DiMera, and his father. He is branded an outcast by André and is in danger of being killed by him. At a DiMera family meeting, Stefano entreats EJ and André to put their differences aside for the good of the family. The two reluctantly embrace to appease their father. After the meeting concludes, Stefano privately reveals to EJ that there is a special reason that he loves him so dearly. He shows his youngest son a picture of Santo DiMera, Stefano's father. EJ looks exactly like his grandfather.

During an amnio test to establish paternity of her child, Sami discovers she is having twins. Oblivious to the fact the paternity test was altered, Sami believes that EJ is the father of both of her babies, a boy and a girl. During an alternative test, results indicate that Lucas is the father of the twins, and not EJ. After the twin's birth, EJ notices the twins look nothing alike, disregarding the fact that they are fraternal twins. Sami's mother, Marlena, convinces Sami a final DNA test should be done to have full details on the babies' genetic history. The DNA test reveals that Sami's daughter is indeed Lucas's, but that John is EJ's son. EJ now believes he is bonded to Sami for life since they share a son.

On November 92007, EJ and Sami are married in a ceremony attended only by the bride, the groom, and the groom's father Stefano, along with three unknown gunmen (or gunwomen). Immediately after being pronounced husband and wife, three shots ring out, one of which strikes EJ in his lower back, lodging in his spine. EJ is rushed to the hospital, where emergency surgery was performed. The doctors are unable to remove the bullet leaving EJ paralyzed from the waist down. EJ is devastated. Sami witnesses EJ break down in tears in Stefano's arms.

EJ starts to recover and moves his legs and walks short distances. He makes more progress, and the full extent of the damage from the bullet is unknown. Around Christmas, it appears Lucas is EJ's shooter.

2008

EJ vows to become a better man if only he can have Sami by his side. He even stands up to Stefano and refuses to allow him to see Johnny without supervision, suspecting that Stefano would take Johnny out of the country. EJ plays the hero once again when he gets himself arrested in order to save Lucas from being killed by Carmine, Stefano’s bodyguard, in prison. Soon after the incident, he is horrified to discover that Stefano and Rolf's "houseguest" is none other than John Black, and discovers his father is not the man he thought he was. He reluctantly decids to tell the Bradys about this in order to prove that he is a better man. He asks Sami to stand by him in fighting against his father.

Still married, EJ and Sami are going to get a annulment when EJ discovers he is about to be deported, because of some Visa problems. They move in together to prove to the immigrations officer that they are a loving family. EJ also has a law degree and joins Mickey Horton's firm. He takes on his first case, which he is defending no other than Nicole Walker Kiriakis, whom Sami cannot stand.

On May 15 2008, EJ and Sami have their first real conversation about the night that Johnny was conceived. Sami finally decides to put the past behind them and have a clean slate. EJ is worried about her change of heart and calls her out on it. Sami then tells him about the time she "forced" herself onto Austin, and how he eventually forgave her. Then on Tuesday May 20 2008 EJ and Sami finally give in and begin to make love for the first time; however, this moment is cut short by the arrival of Sami's ex-husband, Lucas.

Sami pushes EJ for an annulment, claiming that making love to EJ was a mistake because she still loves Lucas. After trying to get Sami to admit she has feelings for him, EJ reluctantly files the annulment papers. During this time, EJ and Nicole have become close friends due to EJ helping her with her divorce from Victor. While drunk one night, EJ admits to Nicole that the annulment was granted, but he's lying to Sami in order to stay "married" to her.

Distraught over being rejected by Sami once again, EJ finds comfort with Nicole on a few occasions. However, they never make love since Nicole stops short every time. She admits to EJ that she does not want to be his rebound girl. She is looking for real love, not a one night stand. EJ is upset at first, but then understands.

Although Nicole agrees to keep EJ's annulment secret, she eventually tells John. John lets EJ know that he knows EJ is lying to Sami about the annulment, a conversation that Sami overhears. Sami confronts EJ about the lie. During their fight, EJ admits that his Visa was never a problem. He paid the immigration officer to lie about him being deported so that Sami would stay married to him. After all the fighting, EJ finally gets Sami to admit that she has feelings for him.

EJ tells Nicole that he knows he still has a chance with Sami because of her confession of having feelings for him. Sami later calls EJ to tell him that it is over and there will never be anything between them. EJ and Nicole leave the mansion and end up at the Salem Inn.

On July 2 2008, EJ and Nicole end up trapped together in an elevator due to a black out. While in the elevator, they start to make love.

During the week of September 29, 2008 is will be revealed that both Sami and Nicole are pregnant with his children.

EJ and Sami controversy

The controversy surrounding a scene between EJ and Sami Brady where EJ requests sex from Sami in exchange for his help saving her then boyfriend is addressed in the EJ Wells and Samantha Brady article. James Scott who plays EJ Wells has talked about that scene and he has said that he considers what EJ did was rape.
