Toronto ,Ontario ,Canada . It is located at 1209Sheppard Avenue East at OldLeslie Street . It was opened in2002 . Nearby landmarks include the East Don River,North York General Hospital ,IKEA North York, Canadian Naturopathic Medicial College (formerlySeneca College 's school of nursing) andCanadian Tire .Public art
The
public art in the station, entitled "Ampersand" (2002) and created by Canadian artist Micah Lexier, consists of 17,000 ceramic tiles each with a printedampersand and, above and below it, the words "Sheppard" and "Leslie", based on 3,400 different pieces of handwriting from the community collected in1997 [http://transit.toronto.on.ca/images/subway-5119-16.jpg] . According to the artist's statement posted in the station, this piece of artwork "acknowledges the duality of being both an individual and part of a larger community." This public art can be seen on both the concourse and platform levels (but not in the bus terminal).Routes/Ikea Shuttle
A bus terminal, located one level above concourse, is integrated with Leslie station. Although the terminal is quite spacious and has several bus bays, currently it serves only TTC route 51 (Leslie).
Outside the station, passengers can also connect with TTC route 85 (Sheppard East), although a transfer obtained in Leslie Station would not be accepted on the Route 85 Bus.
Leslie station is located near Oriole Station on
GO Transit 'sRichmond Hill line , but they are not adjacent. No action has yet been taken on proposals to move the GO station to connect directly with the subway. Passengers wishing to transfer to the GO station are directed to the exit outside the bus terminal, however the intervening Leslie-401 interchange presents an intimidating barrier to pedestrians. In addition to regular TTC and GO Transit connections, IKEA runs a shuttle bus service between the station and IKEA North York. The shuttle picks up passengers and departs from a loop outside Leslie Station’s bus terminal. However, because the entrance outside the bus terminal is unmanned and therefore cannot be used by passengers carrying large or many items, when the shuttle returns from IKEA, it drops off passengers outside the entrance at the track level instead.
To the west of the south station entrance is a mural on the walls of the overpass connecting to the station's upper entrance.
