Northern Cape is a Geographical Unit of the Wine of Origin classification of
South African wine . Corresponding to the province ofNorthern Cape it contains the district of Douglas and the wards of Hartswater, Lower Orange (Benede Oranje) and Rietrivier Free State.tyle
Along the valley of the Orange River, the river creates a cool microclimate that traditionally has favoured white wines. A lot of
Colombard is grown.History
This area was little visited by Europeans until diamonds were found at Kimberley in 1866. Traditionally the Orange River has grown table grapes, being home to most of the national sultana crop. However more interest is being shown in wine.

It has been designated as a Wine of Origin under the classification scheme of
South African wine .Geography
