Holy Redeemer High School is a high school of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton, located in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, United States.

History

In January 2007, Bishop Joseph Martino announced the formation of a central Catholic high school for Luzerne County. It is a consolidation of the four Catholic high schools, Bishop Hafey High School (Hazleton), Bishop Hoban High School (Wilkes-Barre), Bishop O'Reilly High School (Kingston) and Seton Catholic High School (Pittston), and is located in the building that has housed Bishop Hoban since 1972. In the spring of 2007, the name "Holy Redeemer" was selected for the new school, as well as its mascot, the Royals. The schools colors are red, white, and gold. Holy Redeemer High School opened its doors for the first day of school in late August 2007.

Since it was Bishop Hoban, tuition has gone up every year. As of 2008, it has increased $500. Fact|date=April 2008

Thursday, February 28, 2008, school was not in session due to the fact that a majority of faculty members called in sick to protest the idea that they couldn't form a teacher's union.Fact|date=April 2008 The following day over 200 students conducted an orderly walkout in favor of their teachers and for the establishment of a teacher's union at the high school.Fact|date=April 2008 The Diocese did not accept their terms.Fact|date=April 2008

Tuesday, April 29, 2008, Holy Redeemer conducted their first official ceremony for the school's National Honor Society.Fact|date=April 2008 In early June 2008, the first senior class from Holy Redeemer High School graduated. For the rest of the school's classes, Holy Redeemer remained in session until June 12th. The first school year at the new high school concluded successfully.

On August 27, 2008 the second year of Holy Redeemer commenced.
