In 2005, it had a population of 1090.[1]
The village pre-dates the Domesday book of 1086 and is older than the now larger town of Newmarket. It is famous[citation needed] for its fifteenth century packhorse bridge which spans the River Kennett. It also has a fine church, St. Peter's, with an early 14th century tower topped by a weather vane by blacksmith Charles Poulter. [2]
