Princess Alexandra of Hanover ("German: Alexandra Charlotte Ulrike Maryam Virginia Prinzessin von Hannover") (born July 20, 1999 in Vöcklabruck, Upper Austria, Austria) styled Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra of Hanover, is the only child of Ernst August V, Prince of Hanover together with his second wife Princess Caroline of Monaco. She was born six months after her parents' marriage.

Through her father, she is descended from King George III of the United Kingdom, William II, German Emperor, Christian IX of Denmark and from Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom. Through her mother, she is descended from Prince Rainier III of Monaco and Grace Kelly and she is their only grandchild to hold any style or title.

Her full title is: "Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra Charlotte Ulrike Maryam Virginia of Hanover, Duchess of Brunswick and Lunenburg, Royal Princess of Great Britain and Ireland"; however, both Germany and Ireland are republics, and the United Kingdom does not recognize the last title. Her style "HRH Princess Alexandra of Hanover" is officially used in Monaco or by courtesy elsewhere.

She is, currently, the only one of Princess Caroline's four children who bears a royal title, and she is presently fifth in line to the throne of Monaco. Through her father, she is included in the line of succession to the British Throne. However, because of the British royal law that states that no royal may marry a Roman Catholic while maintaining claim to the throne her father automatically lost his right to inherit the British throne upon his marriage to (Catholic) Princess Caroline. However, this has no effect on the rights of Princess Alexandra or her half-brothers, because their parents have chosen to raise them as Protestants. Similarly, The Lord Frederick Windsor and Lady Gabriella Windsor retain their places in the line of succession despite their father's loss of his own rights due to his marriage to their (Catholic) mother.

She has half-siblings from each of her parents' previous marriages. From Prince Ernst's previous marriage, she has two half-brothers, Ernst August, Hereditary Prince of Hanover and Prince Christian of Hanover. From Princess Caroline's previous marriage, she has two half-brothers, Andrea and Pierre Casiraghi and one half-sister, Charlotte Casiraghi.

Early life

Alexandra was christened on 19 September 1999 as a Protestant in a Lutheran ceremony at her father Ernst August's hunting lodge Auerbach near Grünau im Almtal, Upper Austria, Austria. The princess's godparents are her paternal aunt Alexandra, Princess of Leiningen, half-sister Charlotte Casiraghi, Ulrike Umschneider, Maryam Sachs, Virginia Gallico, George Condo, and Eric Maier.
