- Mir-1 microRNA precursor family
The miR-1 microRNA precursor is a small
non-coding RNA that regulates target protein's level in the cell.microRNAs are transcribed as ~70nucleotide precursors and subsequently processed by theDicer enzyme to give a ~22 nucleotide products. In this case the mature sequence comes from the 3' arm of the precursor. The mature products are thought to have regulatory roles through complementarity to mRNA. In humans there are two distinct microRNAs that share an identical mature sequence, these are called miR-1-1 and miR-1-2. These microRNAs are expressed specifically in muscle cells, and appear to have a role in function of the heart.cite journal | author = Mishima Y, Stahlhut C, Giraldez AJ | title = miR-1-2 gets to the heart of the matter | journal = Cell | volume = 129 | issue = 2 | pages = 247–9 | year = 2007 | pmid = 17448987 | doi = 10.1016/j.cell.2007.04.008 | issn = ] cite journal | author = Yang B, Lin H, Xiao J, "et al" | title = The muscle-specific microRNA miR-1 regulates cardiac arrhythmogenic potential by targeting GJA1 and KCNJ2 | journal = Nat.
