Negus (disambiguation)

Negus (disambiguation)

Negus can refer to two etymologically unrelated words:

  • Negus, an Amharic word for vassal ruler or governor in the pre-1974 empire of Ethiopia (ንጉሥ nəgus). The term nəgusä nägäst and alternative forms means "king of kings", or Emperor, although authors often incorrectly shortened this as Negus; see also Ethiopian aristocratic and religious titles.
  • Negus (drink), a drink made of wine, most commonly port, mixed with hot water, spiced and sugared.
