Tooth & Nail Records is a record label founded by Brandon Ebel in the U.S. state of California in 1993. The label later moved to Seattle, Washington, where it is situated today. Its first album distributed was Wish For Eden's "Pet the Fish", which was executive produced by Michael Knott and originally slated to be released by Blonde Vinyl. Although the label originally has distribution only in the Christian music market, it has released many albums that have crossed over to the secular market, many times by bands who prefer not to be labeled as Christian artists, but other times because the band or album is received well musically in spite of it being known as Christian music.

ublabels

* BEC Recordings
* Solid State Records
* Uprok Records

tructure

Tooth & Nail contains multiple sublabels, each catering to a different genre of music:

*BEC Recordings mostly includes artists in the mainstream sect of Christian rock such as Kutless and Jeremy Camp, with some exceptions (such as hip hop artists KJ-52 and Manafest).
*Solid State Records distributes metal and hardcore albums by artists such as Demon Hunter and Underoath.
*Uprok Records was a Christian hip hop label that included many of the genre's early successes, such as ILL Harmonics and KJ-52. It appears to be dissolved, though hip hop albums distributed by BEC Recordings still bear its logo (most recently "Glory" by Manafest).
*Plastiq Musiq (founded by Ronnie Martin of Joy Electric) primarily signs electronic music artists, with some exceptions such as Pilots vs. Aeroplanes. Tooth & Nail entered a partnership to distribute Plastiq Musiq albums in 1998 and 1999.

The label acquired Takehold Records, an independent record label, in 2002.

EMI Christian Music Group owns a 50% stake in Tooth & Nail. [ [http://emicmg.com/about/timeline.aspx Welcome to EMICMG.com ] ]
