School of Information Technology, Nanyang Polytechnic

The Nanyang Polytechnic School of Information Technology (NYP SIT) in Singapore is one of the founding schools since 1998 in Nanyang Polytechnic. The current director of the school is Mr John Tan. SIT utilizes an innovation-oriented program to allow students to explore the latest technology and nurtures their creative thinking and enterprising mindset to prepare graduates to seek a rewarding career in an Internet-centric world.

Centre for IT Innovation

The Centre for IT Innovation (CITI) in Nanyang Polytechnic, School of Information Technology, was established as a platform to provide an impetus towards several key objectives. These objectives focused on CITI as a launch pad for major industrial collaborations and cutting edge R & D projects.

CITI establishes itself as a multi-disciplinary hub that promotes vibrancy and cohesion by enabling students from different courses, to work together on industrial and in-house projects. This platform promotes the concept of borderless integration within the entire Polytechnic. It also enables students with different skill-sets to interact and leverage on one another's strengths.

CITI also acts as an incubation zone for creative ideas to be generated and conceptualised. In the process of conceptualisation, cutting-edge technologies, such as web services and Symbian are being employed. Through this, CITI enables both staff and students to stay abreast of technological advances and developing its core competency and capabilities in XML web services, mobile computing, bio-informatics, IT security and mobile games development.

NYP-IBM Web Services Innovation Zone (WIZ)

WIZ's mission is to accelerate the adoption of Web Services technology. Through WIZ, both NYP and IBM will promote Web Services interoperability across platforms, operating systems and programming languages. WIZ will also undertake pilot and commercial development projects powered by IBM's WebSphere Software platform. IBM will refer their projects in the ASEAN and South Asia region to WIZ. The Centre will also provide training related to IBM's Web Services technology through a periodic “Web Services Jump Start for Developers” programme.

Web Services PATH Assessment Centre

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore ( IDA ) has appointed NYP to be their Web Services Pilot and Trial Hotspots ( PATH ) Assessment Centre in recognition of NYP's capability and strong network with the industry to deliver innovative solutions with Web Services.

Singapore-registered companies who plan to propose innovative Web Services Proof of Concept projects are encouraged to submit their proposals to NYP PATH Assessment Centre.

The Centre also welcomes companies to discuss with NYP on the EDB's Innovation Development Scheme (IDS) which aims to encourage and assist companies to engage in the innovation of products, processes and applications. The IDS typically provides assistance through grants to cover a percentage of the qualifying cost of the project, based on the different level of support for each component of allowable cost which can include manpower cost, equipment and materials, professional services, intellectual property rights, etc.
