- Pituicytoma
Pituicytoma is a rare
brain tumor . It grows at the base of the brain from thepituitary gland . This tumor is thought to be derived from theparenchymal cells of theposterior lobe of the pituitary gland, the so-calledpituicytes . Some researchers believe that they arise from thefolliculostellate cells in theanterior lobe of the pituitary. As such, it is a low-gradeglioma . It occurs in adults and symptoms includevisual disturbance andendocrinological dysfunction . They are often mistaken forpituitary adenoma s which have a similar presentation and occur in the same location. The treatment consists of surgical resection, which is curative in most cases.References
