"Greatest Hits" was Linda Ronstadt's first major compilation album, released in late 1976 for the holiday shopping season. It included material from both her Capitol Records and Asylum Records output, and went back to 1967 for The Stone Poneys' "Different Drum".
It remains the biggest-selling album of Linda's entire career, being certified 7 times platinum (over 7 million copies sold) by the RIAA as of 2001, [http://www.riaa.com/gp/database/search_results.asp] in the US alone. It charted At No.6 on the Billboard 200 and spent over a year and a half on the album chart. However it was criticized by the "Rolling Stone Record Guide" for being "premature", as Ronstadt continued to have great pop successes with her next two albums after this one.
