- Potomac Valley Swimming
Potomac Valley Swimming (PVS) is the governing body for
competitive swimming in the National Capitol Area, also known as theWashington Metropolitan Area . They are a member ofUSA Swimming and theEastern Zone . Most of the athletes who compete in PVS-sponsoredswim meet s are youths under the age of 18. However, there are also opportunities for older members of the swimming community to compete.Governing areas
PVS is one of the 59 sub-divided areas by the National Governing Board, which is USA Swimming. The area that PVS covers is the District of Columbia, Montgomery and Prince George's counties (both in
Maryland ), and Fairfax and Arlington counties, as well as the cities of Alexandria and Falls Church (Virginia ).wimmers
Over 8,000 swimmers are registered PVS competitors. This is one of the largest in all areas of USA Swimming. These swimmers compete across approximately 40 different swim clubs in even more facilities. The level of competition across the clubs varies greatly, from
recreational swimming to Olympic record holders. Some of the notable athletes who have come from PVS include previous world record holdersTom Dolan and Ed Moses, among others.Potomac Marlins
The Potomac Marlins are a prominent team in Potomac Valley Swimming. The Potomac Marlins have practices at six different facilities, GMU pool being one of them. The team was started in 1993 by Bill and Barry Marlin who taught a swimming instruction class and has been growing for the past six years. Curl-Burke
The Curl-Burke Swim Club is also a team in Potomac Valley Swimming. The team has sent more than 3 swimmers to the Olympics, including Tom Dolan, Roque Santos, and Ed Moses. With seven sites to train at, Curl-Burke has swimmers willing to win and make it to the top. Started by Rick Curl, the team has grown to a maximum of more than 100 swimmers at each site and with more swimmers coming every year, the team is growing fast. The many top Senior groups have coaches who are able to train swimmers 9 times per week, including mornings and Sundays. For information please go to http://www.cubu.org/
