Kabita is a 1977 Bengali language film starring Mala Sinha in the lead role of the protagonist. The film is directed by Bharat Shamsher. It is a remake of the Tamil film Aval Oru Thodarkathai (1974) where Kamal Hassan had a supporting role as a neighbor. He played the same role in the Bengali remake, thus his only foray into Bengali film industry. He also acted in the Telugu remake Anthuleni Katha (1976) with Jayaprada, playing a different role as her boss and suitor. He also did guest roles in other remakes: the Hindi film Aaina (1977) starring Mumtaz, and the Kannada film Benkiyalli Aralidha Hoovu with his real-life niece Suhasini playing the lead role. The only remake he didn't appear in is another Hindi remake Jeevan Dhaara (1982) starring Rekha.
