Daniel Ricardo da Silva Soares, nicknamed Dani, (born January 30, 1982) is a Portuguese footballer currently playing for Greek Superleague club Iraklis, as a defensive midfielder. Before joining the Greek club, Dani have played his home country's clubs Vizela and Paços de Ferreira as well as for Romanian powerhouse CFR Cluj.


Club career


Dani was born in Felgueiras and started his career in the youth ranks of nearby town's club Vizela.[1] He was promoted to Vizela's first team for the 2001-02 season while the club played in the Segunda Divisão B.[1] In the 2004-05 season Vizela won the championship in the Zona Norte of the Segunda Divisão B and got promoted to the Liga de Honra.[1] Dani debuted in the Liga de Honra in the eight round of the campaign, in a 0-2 away win against Chaves.[2] That was his last season for Vizela.[1][3] During his six years in VIzela he appeared in 115 league matches and scored 1 goal.[1]

Paços de Ferreira

He was transferred to Paços de Ferreira during the summer transfer window of 2006.[3][4] He debuted in the Primeira Liga, the top tier of the Portuguese league pyramid, in the opening round of the 2006-07 season, as Paços de Ferreira faced a 2-1 away defeat against Sporting Braga. His last appearance for the club was made a few months later, on 14 January 2007, as Paços de Ferreira recorded an 1-0 home win against Beira-Mar.[5] Dani counted 14 appearances for Paços de Ferreira in his brief stay with the club.[5]

CFR Cluj

During the winter transgfer window of 2007 Dani was transferred to Romanian Liga I outfit CFR Cluj for a 600,000 € fee.[4] He scored his first goal for CFR Cluj during an 1-1 away draw against Unirea Urziceni, for the twenty-eighth round of the 2007–08 Liga I.[6] Dani won 2 Romanian Liga I titles while at CFR Cluj, as well as 3 Romanian Cups and 2 Romanian Supercup.[1][7][8]


On 31 August 2010 Dani signed a two year contract for Greek Superleague outfit Iraklis.[9] He debuted for his new club a few days later, on 11 September, in an 1-1 away draw against Atromitos, as he was in the starting lineup.[10][11] Dani scored his first goal for Iraklis in the nineteenth round of the 2010-11 season, opening the score in match against AEK that ended 2-0 in favour of Iraklis.[11][12][13]

Scoda Xanthi

In July 2011 (27.07.2011) he signed contract with Super League Greece club Skoda Xanthi.[14]
