This article is about the Ukrainian Cossack Hetman of Registered Cossacks. For other uses, see Doroshenko.
Mykhailo Doroshenko (Ukrainian: Михайло Дорошенко) (?–1628) was the Hetman of the registered Ukrainian Cossacks from 1623–1628.
He was elevated to the rank of Cossack colonel in 1616, and he was active in Petro Konashevych's wars against Muscovy. He personally participated in the Battle of Khotyn in 1621. Just after Doroshenko was elected hetman of the registered Cossacks, he signed the controversial Treaty of Kurukove with the Polish crown in 1625. This led him to conflicts with the Zaporozhian Cossacks who had opposed the treaty. Doroshenko oversaw the establishment of six registered regiments. He died on 31 May 1628, in a battle while his armies approached Bakhchisaray, the capital of the Crimean Khanate, in support to anti-Ottoman rebellers Mehmed III Giray and Shahin Giray besieged by Ottoman ally Qan Temir in their capital.
