Career
Club
Kily González played his first professional match for Rosario Central in 1993. He played for the club until 1995, when he moved to Boca Juniors. In 1996 he transferred to Real Zaragoza in Spain and in 1999 to Valencia CF. Kily González made his name at Valencia, playing with fellow national squad members Roberto Ayala and Pablo Aimar. Along with talents such as Gaizka Mendieta and John Carew, as well as veterans such as Santiago Cañizares and Jocelyn Angloma, Valencia reached the final of UEFA Champions League twice in a row.
In 2001, while playing for Valencia, he was included in UEFAs 'Team of the Year', on the left wing. In 2003, he followed his former Valencia coach Héctor Cuper to Internazionale. He was released by Inter after the 2005-06 season, and returned to his first team Rosario Central. On 4 August 2009, Gonzalez joined San Lorenzo. However, after Rosario Central was relegated from the Argentine Primera División during the 2009-10 season, Kily González returned to the club for the second division 2010-11 campaign.[1]
National team
Kily González represented the Argentine national team in the 2002 FIFA World Cup playing in all 3 games, though as a substitute against Nigeria and Sweden, and substituted against England. As a member of the national side, he won a gold medal at Athens Olympic games in 2004, under the tutelage of coach Marcelo Bielsa.
Nickname
The name 'Kily' came about when Cristian González was a child. As a toddler, he could only pronounce his name as "Kily", so his family nicknamed him.
