Pirané Department , the northern province of Formosa, Ibarra went toSanta Fe Province to start playing withColón de Santa Fe . The team was in second division when he started playing professionally in 1993, but 2 years later the team was promoted to first division. His game attractedBoca Juniors ' attention, and he transferred to the club he would late refer to as "my home".After 3 successful seasons with Boca, Ibarra moved to
Europe . Not having a European passport, Ibarra was loaned back to Boca Juniors after the first season with Portuguese FC Porto, a year later to French Monaco FC, and then to SpanishRCD Espanyol ."El Negro" Ibarra played 6 matches with the
Argentina national football team , including theCopa América 1999 . While playing with Monaco, he also reached the final of theUEFA Champions League beating giantsReal Madrid andChelsea F.C. , to later lose 3-0 against his former club Porto.In July 2005, and after some difficulties in the negotiations due to the economical crisis in Argentina, Hugo Ibarra came back to Boca Juniors, where he is currently playing.
