Born in Morden, Manitoba, he was called to the bar of Manitoba in 1910 and to the bar of British Columbia in 1928. He was appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada on June 3, 1947 and served as Puisne Justice until September 16, 1962.
In 1971, he was made a Companion of the Order of Canada.
