Caribou County was formed on
February 11 ,1919 , by the Idaho Legislature by a partition of Bannock County. It was the last county formed in the state, three days after Jerome County. It was named for the Caribou Mountains.Geography

census GR|2 of 2000, there were 7,304 people, 2,560 households, and 1,978 families residing in the county. Thepopulation density was 4 people per square mile (2/km²). There were 3,188 housing units at an average density of 2 per square mile (1/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 96.14% White, 0.05% Black or African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 2.20% from other races, and 1.19% from two or more races. 3.96% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. 29.7% were of English, 12.2% German, 11.0% American, 8.2% Danish and 5.5% Irish ancestry according toCensus 2000 .There were 2,560 households out of which 39.60% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.30% were married couples living together, 5.20% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.70% were non-families. 20.40% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.30% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.83 and the average family size was 3.29.
In the county the population was spread out with 31.70% under the age of 18, 8.20% from 18 to 24, 24.50% from 25 to 44, 22.00% from 45 to 64, and 13.60% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 99.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.60 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $37,609, and the median income for a family was $42,630. Males had a median income of $38,575 versus $20,085 for females. The
