Route description
DE 11 begins at the Maryland border in western Kent County, where Maryland Route 302 continues to the west towards Templeville, Maryland. DE 11 heads northeast on two-lane, undivided Arthursville Road through a mix of woods and farms, with occasional residences. The road enters the town of Hartly, where it passes Hartly Elementary School and several homes. In the center of Hartly, the route crosses Delaware Route 44. After DE 44, the road heads north before curving northeast and leaving Hartly. DE 11 continues back into rural areas, making another turn north and passing a few homes. The road runs northeast through more woodland and farm fields before coming to an end at Delaware Route 300 to the southwest of Kenton.[2]
History
By 1920 what is now DE 11 existed as an unimproved county road.[3][4] The road was taken over by the state and paved by 1931.[5] When Delaware created its state highway system by 1936, DE 11 was assigned to its current alignment.[6] The route has not changed since its inception.[7]
