List of snooker players by number of ranking titles

Below is a list of snooker players ordered by number of ranking titles won. The snooker world rankings were introduced in 1976, initially based on the results from the previous three World Championships. The first ranking event was thus the 1974 World Championship, won by Ray Reardon. Stephen Hendry currently holds the record for the most ranking titles with 36.[1]

Ranking tournaments

Current ranking events

  • World Snooker Championship, a ranking event since 1976; between 1976 and the 1982/83 season world rankings were based purely on World Championship performances.
  • UK Championship, a ranking tournament since the 1984/85 season.
  • World Open, from 1982/83.
  • Welsh Open, first held in 1991/92.
  • China Open, held in various years since 1995/96, and annually since 2004/05.
  • German Masters, held as a ranking event between 1995/96 and 1997/98, and since the 2010/11 season.
  • Shanghai Masters, first held in 2007/08.
  • Australian Goldfields Open, first held in the 1989/90 season, and since the 2011/12 season.
  • Players Tour Championship, a series of minor-ranking tournaments with a ranking final since the 2010/11 season.

Former ranking events

  • British Open, a ranking event from 1984/85, last held in 2004/05.
  • Canadian Masters, a ranking event for one season in 1988/89.
  • Classic, a ranking event from 1983/84 to 1991/92.
  • Dubai Classic, from 1989/90 to 1994/95.
  • Irish Masters, held as a ranking event for three seasons, 2002/03 to 2004/05.
  • Malta Cup, a ranking event between 2004/05 and 2006/07. Previously held from 1988/89 to 1996/97 and 2001/02 to 2003/04 as the European Open. Held in 1998/99 as the Irish Open.
  • Malta Grand Prix, held as a ranking event in 1999/00 in place of the European Open.
  • Players Championship, formerly the Jameson International and known by several other names, a ranking event from 1982/83, last held in 2003/04.
  • Strachan Open, held as a full ranking tournament in 1991/92. Comprised a series of three minor ranking events in 1992/1993.
  • Thailand Masters, from 1989/90 to 2001/02.
  • Benson & Hedges Championship, a minor ranking event in 1992/93.
  • Northern Ireland Trophy, from 2006/07 to 2008/2009.
  • Bahrain Championship, only held in 2008/09.
