The hospital was formerly known as Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital after it was purchased in 1980 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, founders of Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital.[1][2] It is one of the three campuses that make up Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center. Originally known as Marina Mercy Hospital, it was under construction in 1969.[3] The two Daniel Freeman hospitals were acquired in 2001 by Tenet Healthcare.[4] The name was changed in 2004, when the hospital was transferred to the Centinela Freeman HealthSystem.[5]
The hospital's rehab center has treated celebrities such as Jean-Claude Van Damme, Matthew Perry, and Dennis Wilson.[6]
