Background
Gordon was born in Newport News, Virginia on October 10, 1956. He is a graduate of the New York University Film School.
Career
Gordon has more than 70 motion picture and television projects to his credit.
Among Gordon’s motion picture credits as producer and financier are: Saving Private Ryan, The Day After Tomorrow, The Patriot, Wonder Boys, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Talk to Me, The Painted Veil and Speed.
In television, he serves as executive producer on the ABC series Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice, as well as the CBS drama Criminal Minds and Lifetime’s Army Wives.
Gordon has also produced more than a dozen long form television projects, including HBO’s Emmy winning Warm Springs as well as And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself. He also directed and produced the Emmy-nominated Children Remember the Holocaust.
His first producing effort was the Off-Broadway production of The Buddy System at Circle in the Square downtown. He will produce the upcoming film adaption of the Dark Horse comic The Strange Case of Hyde.[1]
Gordon is, together with Hawk Koch, the current President of the Producers Guild of America.[2] He serves on the board of the Virginia Film Festival, Archer School for Girls, Chrysalis Group, and Motion Picture & Television Fund. Gordon is the former chairman of Teach for America Los Angeles and a former board member of The Holocaust Documentation and Information Center and The UCLA Lab School.
His most recent projects include 2012, which grossed over $750 million worldwide, Duncan Jones’ science fiction thriller Source Code, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, and The Messenger, which garnered Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Screenplay. Upcoming projects include The Details with Tobey Maguire and Laura Linney, and Bill Condon’s Richard Pryor biopic for Sony.
Personal life
He married Karen Villeneuve, a Canadian social entrepreneur and former model in 1997. The couple separated in 2003 and divorced in 2006.[3] Together they have two daughters.[4]
Awards and nominations
Gordon is a five time Emmy Award nominee with two wins. He has been nominated for multiple Golden Globe Awards with two wins. He was nominated for the Academy Award and BAFTA Award and won a Golden Globe for Best Picture as producer of Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan. Other awards include Daytime Emmy Awards, Leo Award, Producers Guild of America Award and the Golden Satellite Award.
