Writing career
Swordbird
Fan began her book when she was ten[clarification needed] and had lived in Syracuse, New York, United States for only three years. When she finished the manuscripts at age 12, she sold her novel to HarperCollins with a 50,000-copy first printing.[1] Birds, a lifelong passion of the author's, provided the inspiration for Swordbird. After awaking from a vivid dream about birds at war while simultaneously wrestling with her feelings about terrorism and September 11, Nancy wrote Swordbird as a way to convey her message of peace to the world.[2]
Sword Quest
In 2008, HarperCollins released a prequel to Swordbird, called Sword Quest set 100 years before the time of Swordbird.
