neighborhood in Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania in theUnited States . It is the largest neighborhood in Pittsburgh's western region. It is surrounded by Windgap,Chartiers City (Pittsburgh) , Crafton Heights,McKees Rocks , and Elliott.Originally established as Sheraden Borough in 1889, it grew quickly and was annexed by the City of Pittsburgh in 1917. Shortly thereafter, the Public School Board of Pittsburgh opened numerous educational facilities around Sheraden, including Langley High School, completed in 1923, which replaced the former borough's Riverview High School.Sheraden Park is the focus for most of this neighborhood'srecreation al activities. Set in a wooded valley, the park houses aswimming pool ,tennis courts , ballfields, outdoorbasketball court s andpicnic andplayground areas. Residents take pride in theirlibrary /community center and the renovated senior center that also serve the neighborhood. Many houses in Sheraden are known locally as "Pittsburgh Boxes," a cross between the wide,Prairie style homes of themidwest and the urban Victorian homes found in the east. Sheraden offers a variety of activities for its residents including the Sheraden Community Council and Kiwanis Club of Sheraden, both active organizations working toward developing the community to its fullest potential. It also offers programs for youth such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, softball, baseball and football. The community has many churches of different denominations. The population is diverse. Housing is affordable and its proximity to downtown and the airport make it an ideal location.References
