May 28 ,1928 -March 25 ,2007 ) was abusinessman from Springhill who ran as a Republican in four elections for theLouisiana House of Representatives in calendar year 1991. He won thespecial election runoff onMarch 23 for a 9-month unexpired term from District 10, encompassing all ofWebster Parish in northwestern Louisiana.Eason defeated Patti Lou Cook Odom of Minden, the seat of Webster Parish, 3,659 to 3,309 votes. Odom, the daughter of H. Boe Cook, a Minden
radio station owner, and the wife of Charles Odom, a parish police juror, had been elected in 1987 to the Democratic State Central Committee. Eason, however, lost the regulargeneral election onNovember 16 by seventy-one votes to the Democrat,Everett Doerge , a retired school administrator from Minden. Doerge received 8,389 votes to Eason's 8,318. Eason was the only Republican since Reconstruction ever to have held this particular legislative seat. He was particularly known for his efforts in promoting economic andhighway expansion in his area.Eason was born in Clarks, a
lumber ing town inCaldwell Parish , to Fulton Fillmore Eason and the former Jewel Parker, but he lived most of his life in Springhill, where he managed a chemical company. Prior to his legislative service, Eason was a SpringhillCity Council member from 1966-1970 and 1987-1991. He was a member of the Webster ParishLibrary Board from 1975-2006. He was a member of theLouisiana Highway 7 Corridor Commission and the North Webster Parish Industrial Board. He was a member ofRotary International and the CentralBaptist Church of Springhill.Eason died in Shreveport. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-four years, the former Frances Smith (
September 29 ,1928 -January 8 , 2006). He was survived by his children, John Wesley Eason and wife Juana ofVictoria, Texas , Joy Kathleen Langston ofMagnolia, Arkansas , David Eugene Eason ofHouston, Texas , and Barbara Jean Dees and husband Ronnie of Springhill; grandchildren, Daniel J Barnard and wife Rebecca of Springhill, LA, Matthew McDonald and wife Brittany of Dumas, AR, Michael McDonald, Christina Langston of Magnolia, AR, Archie Eason of Victoria, TX, and Audrey Eason of Victoria, TX; and six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elizabeth Burch of Springhill, Ima Clements of Shreveport, and Virginia Perry and husband Raymond of Houston; one brother, Everett Eason and wife Winona ofCamden, Arkansas . The Easons are interred in Springhill Cemetery.References
