Extracurricular activities

Athletics

The Allen Eagle Football Program has been one of the most successful football programs in the state of Texas in recent years, beginning with the arrival of Todd Graham in 1995. Graham turned around a program that had no district wins in the year prior to his arrival and guided it to five playoff berths and two bi-district championships in six seasons. After capturing the 5A Division II bi-district title in 2000 while defeating four teams ranked among the top-10 in the state of Texas, Graham moved on to coach in the collegiate ranks.

Graham successor became Joe Martin, who in 2005 accepted a position with the Texas High School Coaches Association. Martin was followed by his former assistant Tom Westerberg, who has since led the Eagle to a bi-district title in 2005. In 2006, the varsity football team finished its season as the District 9-5A Champions, arguably the toughest district in all of Texas 5A high school football, by beating Plano East in the last game of the regular season; 22-17. Their only loss was to Garland High School in the season opener. In the playoffs, the Allen Eagles beat Mesquite, Wylie, Round Rock, and Spring Westfield, and made it to the State Semi-Finals where they lost to Southlake Carroll. Their regular season record was 9-1; and their overall season record was 13-2. The Eagles followed up 2006 with a perfect 10-0 regular season in 2007.

Allen High School’s boys bowling team won the 2001–2002 and 2007-2008 Texas High School Bowling Club Team Championship. The Allen girl's team was State Champions in 2003-2004 and 2004–2005, the only Texas boys or girls teams who have ever repeated as State Champions.

The Allen High School Varsity Hockey team won the 2006-2007 Texas State Championship.

Whereas the Allen Eagle football team has experienced many district and bi-district successes over the years, the Eagle athletic program has been rewarded with many of its highest achieving athletic accomplishments from the boy’s and girl’s soccer program, as well as the girl’s volleyball program, bowling teams, and ice hockey team – the last two noted previously. In reference to both the boy’s and girl’s soccer programs, no other Eagle athletic program have sent more athletes to Division I collegiate programs on full-scholarships. Furthermore, the girl’s program finished 2nd in state in ‘98, while the boys lost in the ’96 and ’97 regional finals. Both programs have been ranked in the top 10 in the state, as well being ranked in regional and national polls. Thus, many of the Eagle athletic programs have experienced successes both on the field and in the classroom.

The Allen Eagle Escadrille is believed by some to be the world’s largest high school marching band, with a membership of over 650 students. [ [http://www.allenisd.org/aisdweb.nsf/Content/NR071905?OpenDocument Escadrille to “Take Over” 12 Sonic Drive-in’s] ] They play for the 5A football team on Fridays, strive for perfection in various competitions and are in demand nation-wide for parades and performances. It was also a special participant in the 1994 St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland, 1995 and 1999 Texas Gubernatorial Parades, and 1997 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. The band continues improving under the direction of Mr. Charles Pennington.

Broadcast program

Allen High School also has one of the nation’s top high school broadcast programs, KGLE 3 Teen News. From 1996 to 2006, the program has had five first places Best of Shows, two second places, one third place, one eighth place, and one not placed at the National Scholastic Press Association’s biannual competition. They have also been the Pacemaker finalists five times. The KGLE broadcast program is currently under the direction of Mr. Dusty Parrish. In the 2007 year, tweleve junior class students were expelled from the program for participating in the production of "The Real KGLE," a parody of the daily newscasts, lead by Andrew Reyna. Only four students were expelled from the program- Andrew Reyna, Robbie Lopes, Chase Fowler, and Madeline Greeson.
