Verona (character)

Verona is a fictional character in the 2004 film "Van Helsing". She was portrayed by Silvia Colloca.

Background

She is Count Dracula's eldest bride. She is the dominant member of the vampire brides, able to physically intimidate Aleera and constantly issuing orders to Marishka.

She, as well as the other two brides, insisted on using Frankenstein's monster to bring their children to life, in which he was the only one that would be able to give their children immortality. Before the plan can come to fruition, however, the monster is buried under burning rubble.

One year later, Verona and the other brides battle Van Helsing, who kills Marishka. It is revealed that Dracula had tried to use Velkan and Anna's father to bring their children to life, but their vampiric children died soon after. Later on, Dracula and his remaining two brides discover that the monster survived; Verona later chases Van Helsing in hopes of recovering the monster to bring her children to life. After the chase, the cart falls off a bridge in which Verona flies after it in hopes of saving the monster.

However, instead of finding the monster inside the cart, she finds a bundle of stakes tied to an explosive. She starts to fly away in disgust, but after the cart crashes and explodes, the stakes fly up in every direction, and many hit Verona. They shoot through her wings, but one goes into her abdomen and two through Verona's heart, killing her.

Powers and Abilities

As a vampire, Verona is essentially immortal and possesses many different powers: one being the ability to heal any injury other than a puncture of the heart. Perhaps her most commonly utilized power is the ability to transform into an anthropomorphic bat. When in the form of this demonic creature, her skin turns grayish-white and she grows wings capable of sustained flight.
